Ann Arbor Ballet Theatre (AABT) was established in the spring of 1980, as a non - profit organization, to promote local interest in and appreciation of classical ballet performed with live music and theater. AABT offers area dancers, choreographers, musicians, and persons interested in theater opportunities to perform together in an integrated atmosphere.
Carol A. Radovic, the Artistic Director and Founder, received Russian method teacher training with the late Jurgen Schneider (former ballet master with the American Ballet Theatre and coach to Mikhail Baryshnikov and Natalia Makarova) and Janina Cunova (former ballet mistress with the Austrailian Ballet Company). Ms. Radovic also trained with the Kirov Ballet and the Bolshoi Ballet and with Ludmila Pavlovna Sakharova at the Perm Choreographic Academy in Perm, Russia. She received further teacher training at the Vaganova Ballet Academy in St. Petersburg, Russia. Her early ballet training in New York City was with Pereslavic, Danilova, Darvesh, Eglevsky, Briansky, as well as the Joffrey Ballet Harkness School. Ms. Radovic maintains her strong connection with the great ballet schools of Russia through travel and further study of the pedagogy, and cultural exchange programs which involve bringing Russian teachers here for master classes and taking promising ballet students to Russia to study dance.
Other ballets choreographed by Ms. Radovic include Cindrella, A Midsummer Nights Dream, Carmen, The Nightingale, Carnival of the Animals, and many other short works as well.
